About Cheryl Lowry MD, MPH FAsMA, FAWM, DiMM, DiDMM

Cheryl’s interest in adventure started when her family moved from New Jersey to Wyoming. She hasn’t stopped moving since that time. Cheryl has provided medical care on all seven continents on multiple occasions.  In fact, her latest trip to provide support to Antarctica began at the end of January, 2020.

Cheryl has a tendency to be at the wrong place at the right time. Notable experiences in her career include leading a response team during the events of Sept 11, 2001; stabilization and evacuation of severely injured patients from Antarctica; providing radiation countermeasure expertise to the Tomodachi Nuclear accident; teaching mountain medicine topics to the Kyrgyz military; serving as the diving medical advisor to a special forces team; and conducting high altitude research in Chile.
Over her career, she has served as a law enforcement officer, emergency medical technician, and a CEO of a medical facility serving 30,000 beneficiaries.

Galveston Bay, Texas 2019

Cheryl’s experience in medical education spans several years. She served as the Associate Program Director, Aerospace Medicine Residency, US Air Force School of Aerospace Medicine. More recently she served as the Aerospace Medicine Residency Program Director at the University of Texas Medical Branch. In this role, she was the course director for the Principles of Aviation and Space Medicine course in Houston and has been an invited speaker for the International Space Medicine Symposium. She currently serves on the Board of Directors of the American Board of Preventive Medicine.
Cheryl is known for being more comfortable practicing medicine from the back of a truck or a trailhead than in a clinic. She is an avid outdoor enthusiast and loves teaching and sharing new experiences with people. Her favorite hobbies include cycling, running, hiking, sailing, climbing, and scuba diving. She also teaches scuba diving and sailing.
